Even Chefs Can Learn About Life From Cooking Shows

Thanks to Michelle Macphearson for the post.

I'm addicted to cooking shows. I watch them constantly. My directtvsatellite TV DVR is always full of hours and hours of cooking shows. I'm a professional chef and even I manage to learn new and exciting things from cooking shows every day. My satellite TV provider has recently added a second 24 hour cooking channel so in addition to Food Network we now have the Cooking Channel.

The Cooking Chanel is an amazing mixture of old Food Network reruns, new shows, and best of all classics like Graham Kerr's Galloping Gourmet. The Galloping Gourmet is great; it is a marvelous time capsule of the late sixties globetrotting gourmand lifestyle. The show starts with history and footage of Graham discovering the dish he is about to make in some European restaurant; he then spends the next 15 minutes joking and trying to fumble his way through cooking the dish. The show is an amazing resource; not only do we learn about the food and how to make it; you learn about a lost part of our culture.

This is the beauty of cooking, It's not only about food; a large part of culture is tied to food. When you learn about food you are also learning history and culture. Cooking shows enlighten us and bring us together; I'm so happy I have satellite TV and have so many viewing opportunities.
